Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f) for the High Brilliance and X-Ray Spectroscopy Beamline ID26

Post-Doctoral Fellow (m/f) for the High Brilliance and X-Ray Spectroscopy Beamline ID26 [18-36m; Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Geology or a related field; skills in instrumentation (e.g. X-ray instrumentation, in-situ cells, spectroscopy instrumentation, …); previous research related to electronic structure analysis; English] / ESRF; Grenoble / deadline August 29

EUROPEAN SYNCHROTON RADIATION FACILITY
INSTALLATION EUROPEENNE DE RAYONNEMENT SYNCHROTRON

The ESRF is a multinational research institute, situated in Grenoble, France and financed by 19 countries mostly European. It operates a powerful synchrotron X-ray source with some 30 beamlines (instruments) covering a wide range of scientific research in fields such as biology and medicine, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences, materials and surface science, and physics. The ESRF employs about 600 staff and is organized as a French société civile.

Within the Experiments Division, the Dynamics and Extreme Conditions group is now seeking to recruit a:

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW (M/F)
for the High Brilliance and X-Ray Spectroscopy
Beamline ID26
T H E F U N C T I O N

You will participate in ongoing in-house research programs, the running of the Beamline, providing support to external users as local contact, and develop your own research program.
ID26 is dedicated to X-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy. We study the electronic structure and local coordination in systems that are relevant in the applied sciences (materials science, coordination chemistry, (bio)catalysis, mineralogy and geology,…). The beamline hosts unique instrumentation for advanced X-ray spectroscopies and thus provides state-of-the-art research possibilities. We also collaborate with many theoretical groups that develop codes for electronic structure calculations for X-ray spectroscopies. (For further information about the instrument please consult www.esrf.fr/UsersAndScience/Experiments/DynExtrCond/ID26/). You will be encouraged and supported to develop your own research, which should exploit the exceptional beamline capabilities. You will initiate and participate in collaborative research programs with universities and research centers.

Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S A N D E X P E R I E N C E

You must hold a Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Geology or a related field. Very good skills in instrumentation (e.g. X-ray instrumentation, in-situ cells, spectroscopy instrumentation, …) and previous research related to electronic structure analysis are essential.
